01/11/12 - Washington's Tough Rules to Follow (part 1)

As I am perusing George Washington's Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior, I have come across a few rules that are well neigh impossible to follow.  Luckily, some of these are not as applicable today as they might have been back in George Washington's time.  Take for example, Rule number 10.

When you sit down, keep your feet firm and even, without putting one on the other or crossing them.

As a challenge, try not sitting for an entire day without crossing your legs.  I bet you that you won't be able to do it. Also, I find it amusing that there are so many paintings of George Washington sitting with his legs crossed.  Maybe HE couldn't even do it.
