01/17/12 - Getting Ready to "Shrug"

Today I experienced a pivotal re-awakening in what I have been feeling, and what I have been seeing and hearing from other people.  For months now, I have been contemplating the sanity of staying in California or moving to a state like Texas.  After all, our house is currently on the market and my wife and I are looking for employment, so it seems like the perfect opportunity to make a change.  I've done my pro's and con's list (there's an app for that) and by a 67% to 33%, Texas seems like the way to go.  But I haven't been able to kick the feeling that there has to be a bigger reason for the change.

On top of that, why Texas?  Why do I keep hearing that Texas is the place to be?  Why not Florida, Nevada, or Tennessee where there are also better tax ramifications?  Well tonight I think I found my answer.

Atlas is beginning to shrug.

Tonight I went and saw the new Ayn Rand documentary about how the prophesy of Atlas Shrugged is coming true and it made me realize that Atlas IS shrugging, and Texas is perhaps becoming the new "Galt's Gulch".

Maybe a question should be added to the quest of Being George Washington.  Who is the modern day "George Washington" (although I know he would cringe at this comparison) that we all aspire to be more like?  Also, who is the modern day "John Galt"?  I contend that maybe they are the same person.

So the first goal is to become more like George Washington, but maybe we should all think about being a little like Midas Mulligan or Francisco d'Anconia.

"Who IS George Washington?"

"Who IS John Galt?"
